US-based Moon Express plans to launch its MX-1 lander in 2017 to the moon, and it will earn a $30 million payout from the Google X-Prize organization if it can successfully pull it off. This is the first time that a private company has been given permission to fly a mission to the Moon. Moon Express will be the first company to try this endeavor, and it’s just 26 people. The company has been designing its small, efficient lander for several years, and it purchased a launch contract from Rocket Lab in 2015.
